First Ocean Swim of 18th Street Pod of 2018
With high enthusiasm, the pod was ready for its first ocean swim of the season on May 20, 2018. Expecting 63 degree ocean temp, the pod quickly determined the water was more like 59 or 60 degrees, at most 61 degrees. On the other hand and following our recovery from face freeze, we were surrounded by 2, maybe more harbor seals at 18th Street, which either followed us out of curiosity or were a large pod of young seal pups all the way from 18th Street to 26th Street. Dolphins were present as well and Randy reported one dolphin actually swam right under him. 6 of us entered the ocean and 3 of us actually swam all the way to 26th Street and back. Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend and it remains as to what the ocean conditions will be.
